LUYEN
age 16

Luyen, the unofficial social director and village greeter, is not quiet three feet tall, but this does not slow her down. She is from a village near Vihn City, one of the most heavily bombed areas. During the American war, more bombs were dropped in Vietnam, a country about the same size as California, than were dropped during all of WWII. The Pentagon estimates that one out of every four did not explode on impact. This leaves hundreds of thousands still buried, armed, and dangerous. Every year, people are killed while clearing new fields for cultivation, fishing, or doing construction.
