Long is unable to speak because of a deformed face, mouth, and tongue. However, she has a good mind. She finished primary school, but refuses to go to her village secondary school because she is teased about her facial deformities. Long spends most of her time making artificial flowers. The other two girls, Binh (center) and Luyen (right) are stunted in their growth and have similar curvatures of the upper spine. As one might suspect, they are best of friends. Luyen knows the names of all of the kids in the village. Therefore, she is the unofficial tour guide, giving each name as she guides you around by the hand. Both of the girls are not quite three feet tall.
